Abel Construction has a proud history of over half a century of smart growth and innovation.


Company History


E. B. Abel, Jr., began operations in 1972 under the name “E. B. Abel Construction Co., Inc.” At that time, the company was involved in various small projects in the York County, Pennsylvania area. In 1993, E.B. retired and Troy Abel purchased the company and the name was changed to Abel Construction.


Since our inception, we’ve grown to offer a much broader range of construction services, working in both the public and private sectors. Technology has allowed us to expand our service territory as well, which includes central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland.


As our structural rehabilitation division grew, we soon realized it needed to become its own separate but related company. This would allow it to evolve and resource itself according to the needs of its rapidly growing niche market. Our sister company, Abel Recon, was formed to continue this evolution.

Our Facilities

Abel Construction is proud to operate from several fine, modern facilities. Our main office in Mountville, Pennsylvania, allows our staff of clerical, accounting, personnel administration, and project management employees to work in a professional environment insulated from—but in constant communication with—our field operations.


Our field operations facility, located just across the Susquehanna River in Wrightsville, houses a self-sufficient maintenance and dispatch operation. We take great pride in our well-maintained fleet of modern equipment, and this facility plays a major role in our overall maintenance program.

Abel Construction Co. is proud to be a supporter of the Highway Construction / Heavy Equipment Operation & Maintenance Program at the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center (LCCTC), and a supporting member of the steering committee for the Civil Engineering Construction Technology program at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. We also actively sponsor and participate in the York Builders Workforce Now initiative and Construction Career Days.


Our company offers extensive on-the-job training. As our firm continues to grow, we want and need our employees to advance and grow with us. So, we have always first looked within our own ranks to advance people into new positions and more responsibility. This strengthens and betters both the company and the individuals within it. Of course, there come times when we must also look outside our firm for fresh talent.
